During week 26, 2019, a total of 2,806 dengue cases including one deaths were reported in Malaysia, bringing the cumulative number as of 29 June 2019 to 62,421 cases including 93 deaths. This is higher compared to 32,425 cases with 53 deaths reported during the same period last year.

 

What is dengue fever?

Dengue Fever is an illness caused by infection with dengue virus transmitted by the Aedes mosquito.

What is the Dengue Virus?

Is a Arbovirus type:

• Arthropod, Mosquito, born.
• It is a pathogen that causes 
• Dengue fever (DF)
• Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF)
• Can lead to Dengue shock syndrome (DSS)
• Has four different serotypes (DEN-1,2,3,4)

 

Symptoms of Dengue Fever

• Sudden onset of fever (103⁰F-105⁰F) and continuous for 3 to 7 days 
• Severe headache 
• Joint pain, muscle pain, pain behind eyeballs 
• Nausea, vomiting, and rash

         

In the case of hemorrhage dengue fever the symptom may go worst:

• Nausea and/or Haematemesis (vomiting of blood)
• Epistaxis (Bleeding from the nose, mouth, or gums)
• Haematuria (Blood in Urine)
• Plasma leakage
• Respiratory distress
• Purpura (Lesions) or even death.

Dengue Fever – Treatment

• At present, no specific drug that can treat dengue fever effectively. 
• Patient should be isolated in a mosquito-free environment to prevent the spread of disease.
