Serdang, 7 February 2026 – Pusat Kesihatan Universiti organized a Strengthening Course for Assistant Pharmacy Officers (APOs) from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The programme was held at the Seminar Room of the University Health Centre, Universiti Putra Malaysia.
The primary objective of the course was to enhance staff competency in the systematic, safe, and effective management and handling of medications. A total of 16 staff members participated in the programme, comprising personnel from the University Health Centre, Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. All participants ARE serving as Assistant Pharmacy Officers within their respective institutions.
The session was conducted by Ms. Bargavi A/P Govindan, a Pharmacist from Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah. During the session, she elaborated on fundamental pharmacological principles and emphasized adherence to current guidelines and regulations established by the Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia. The course aimed to strengthen professional competence in minimizing medication handling errors, updating knowledge on certain drugs that were chosen to be discussed , enhancing patient safety, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards set by the relevant authorities, including the Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia.
Through a combination of theoretical instruction and practical application, participants were expected to effectively apply the knowledge and skills acquired within their respective workplace settings.
The organization of such programmes is anticipated to further enhance the competency level of staff from the University Health Centre, Hospital Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, thereby contributing to the continuous improvement of service delivery quality to clients.
