Shah Alam, 30 June 2024 – The School of Graduate Studies (SGS) at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) successfully organized the Lens of Knowledge 2.0: Colors with Community! program at Taman Batu Tiga Community Center and Surau Nurul Hidayah. The initiative, held from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM, aimed to promote public health awareness and foster community engagement.

The program was a collaborative effort involving multiple organizations, including the UPM University Health Center, National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN), Social Welfare Department, Cerah Optique Enterprise, Community Health Volunteers Selangor (SUKA), Cancer Research Malaysia (CARE), and the Batu Tiga Community Service Center.

Activities and Participation

The day featured a variety of activities, such as:

• Health and dental talks
• Coloring competitions for children
• Health, dental, and eye screenings
• Breast and cervical cancer screenings

The Dental Division and Health Promotion Section of PKU UPM actively participated by offering dental examinations, consultations, and oral health promotion to residents. Their involvement aimed to improve dental awareness and encourage effective oral hygiene practices.

A total of 170 participants of diverse backgrounds attended the event, underscoring its inclusive and community-focused nature.

Distinguished Guests

The event was graced by YB Tuan Danial Al-Rashid Bin Haron Aminar Rashid, Batu Tiga Assemblyman, and UPM’s Dean of the School of Graduate Studies, Prof. Dr. Zalilah Mohd. Sharif, who represented the university.

Impact on the Community

Lens of Knowledge 2.0 provided essential health services, including dental check-ups and cancer screenings, to the Batu Tiga community. The program not only raised health awareness but also reinforced healthy lifestyle habits. It also served as a platform for UPM to extend its community services and strengthen its ties with various NGOs and local communities.

Such collaborative initiatives enhance UPM’s visibility and highlight the university’s commitment to contributing to societal well-being.
