Lately there are a lot of cases involving the impacted wisdom teeth reported at the PKU Dental Service. Although this case is a common case, however, there are patients who do not know about it and the treatment methods.

Problems caused by Impacted Wisdom Tooth:-

1. Infection
2. Swelling
3. Gum disease (pericoronitis) caused by the build up of plaque on teeth
4. Bad breath, warning sign of gum disease
5. Risk of tooth decay due to difficulty cleaning the impacted area

If experienced any of the following signs seek dentists immediately:-

1. Pain on impacted area
2. Swelling and a sac of fluid called a cyst form around the impacted wisdom tooth area
3. Face swelling
4. Difficulty in chewing and swallowing food
5. Difficulty opening mouth
6. Fever

Dental Treatment:-

1. Rinse mouth with a normal saline/saltwater/antiseptic mouthwash
2. Antibiotic
3. To determine the position of the wisdom tooth, dental x-ray may required.
4. Removal of wisdom tooth through surgery may recommends, if impacted wisdom tooth always cause problems and discomfort.
