World Health Day

World Health Day has been celebrated on April 7th every year since 1950 with a different theme to raise awareness of the world community on major and current health -related issues.

“OUR PLANET, OUR HEALTH” is the theme of World Health Day this year and it illustrates that universal human health depends on the condition of planet earth. If our planet is in a good and balanced state in terms of ecosystem, development, economy, politics and social, then efforts towards better health will be easily achievable.

Unfortunately, the state of our earth now is the opposite. The current air pollution causes more than 90 % of the world's population to breathe unhealthy air and it increases the risk of lung cancer as well as other respiratory diseases. Global warming following uncontrolled development activities increases the risk of floods as well as infectious diseases such as typhoid, dengue fever and leptospirosis. Lack or difficulty in obtaining clean and quality water caused 829 000 people to die due to water and foodborne diseases. High population density, poverty as well as difficult access to health exacerbate existing disease statistics.

In conclusion, the destruction of the earth will damage human health. So let us play our respective roles to save the earth and keep our health together.
